Cottenham does OK by the citi 7. Or at least half of it does. Problem is that after the buses have gone up Lambs Lane they then turned right and head off back to Cambridge.
There have been some ideas to provide a turning circle in Broad Lane but they have not gone too far yet. And even then it still leaves the top part of Cottenham unconnected.
Agreed the lambs lane issue is a problem.
Other comments I’d make about the service from cottenham (no specific order):
- it’s expensive vs car and milton park ride
- long journey time vs car (or the new timetable looks like it’s cut the journey time by 15mins to ~30mins) but it is only 6-ish miles!
- no communter bus to the cambridge science park, hmm wonder how much it would cost to get the bus then guided bus into the science park during rush hour? (single ticket purchase? season ticket?)
My biggest issue is the price. The sudden change in cost the moment you cross the border of Histon and Cottenham. With it being the same route, with the bus turning to Cottenham to head right back to town again, I’m unsure why they feel the need to double the price for a few miles more (if that)
I gave a up a car when I lived in Histon to get the bus to Station Road Cambridge, were I work. I then moved to Cottenham and found it cheaper to run a car than the bus. There were several reasons I decided to switch back to a car after a year of bus misery.
The bus drivers are rude, drive way too fast and too close to cyclists for safety.
I dont feel safe cycling because of the buses either.
Looking to move back to Histon asap, the bus situation will only get worse with the mis-guided bus too.
My comments about the Citi7 are:
frequency of empty buses going past my house (Lambs Lane) – it cannot be economic to have so many buses coming to this bit of Cottenham – can we have some go to Rampton? or go straight up to Broad Lane so we only have every other one in Lambs Lane?
How come we suddenly have all double deckers? I strongly resent people staring in at my bedrooms. There was no communication from Stagecoach about this at all.
Rude and unsafe drivers – we nearly hit two people yesterday and saw bullying driving which intimidated cyclists and pedestrians the whole way – outrageous.
It is not cost effective for me to take the bus – the price hike from Histon to Camb, and Cottenham to Camb is far too much and just rules out bus travel.
I completely support a lesser service in Cottenham. We don’t need so many lining up at Lambs Lane with their engines churning out chemicals (I’ve been told they are not ‘allowed’ to turn the buses off – for goodness sake).
Come on Stagecoach think about the economics – this cannot be a profit making service – and the residents on your routes…..
