citi 7 bus blog launched!

Next stop Cambridge

This is the new site for Citi 7 bus users and is intended to be a forum to collect and share views so that the service which this route provides to its users can be steadily improved.

It is not just for complaints, although there will certainly be plenty of those, but also for constructive suggestions. It is hoped that it will become a prime source of information which will support parish councils’ efforts to get Stagecoach to improve its service.

I’ve just seen the proposed new timetable http://www.stagecoachbus.com/uploads/Citi7Nov09.pdf

My comments from a southern perspective, based on this compared with an earlier draft:

That’s a better timetable. Evening peak buses now leave the station southbound at xx15, which connect far better with the fast King’s Cross trains. Northbound at xx51 aren’t great though.

It looks like the schooldays/non-schooldays stuff is just to attempt to balance the journey time with the congestion in town (noting that it improves in school holidays) rather than any particular school… southbound the padding is between Addenbrookes and Trumpington (for Long Road Sixth Form, or just congestion on Long Road?) Though there’s a complete gap leaving town between 1600 and 1630 on schooldays (it’s replaced by a bus starting at Long Road). Northbound the schooldays padding is between the station and St Andrew’s St.

I should probably follow up to say those were my comments on seeing the revised draft timetable. I wasn’t impressed by the main points of the cut from 6/hr to 4/hr and the lack of extra buses for the peaks. The guided bus is almost no substitute for the C7 – it only overlaps at Addenbrookes, the station and Histon (and one day Trumpington, where works haven’t even started yet). This is hardly good preparation for the TIF/congestion charge bid.

Thank you Denis and others for getting some ammendments to the service. Whilst I am not directly affected I may be in future years and there are many people who will appreciate the off-peak service to station road. All public transport organisations need to realise that commercial viability is not the only concern they should have, they have a responsibility to the aged and infirm to assist them in being independent. I wonder what evidence was used by Andy Cambell to prescribe the ammended route. How many extra commuters does he expect to get by cutting out Station road? And how many passenger who, at presen, get on the c7 in station road, does ANdy expect to transfer to the guided bus? Has he thought of the fact that the two routes do not have certain sops in common? The sooner the route is reverted to that in operation at present the better.
